They hope to one day pass this family business onto their children and continue to grow in order to offer more opportunities and better lifestyle conditions for their families in Huancayo.
The story behind the artisans from Santiago De Cajas, located in the mountain range of Huancayo - Junin, is truly an inspiring one. This artisan group consists of five brothers that have been weaving since they were teenagers. Weaving is a cultural tradition in Santiago de Cajas that has been passed on between many generations. The workshop was a family business that was founded by their mother.
During that time it was very dangerous to live in Huancayo due to terrorism. One of the brothers decided to migrate to Lima to seek better life opportunities for his family. He started a workshop in a very tiny space in his house. Shortly after, one of his brothers came to Lima with his family to help. They had difficulty providing their children with proper education and access to the medical care they needed.
The five brothers moved to Lima and spent many years and worked hard to grow their workshop. With continuous support, they have doubled their space and are able to live in better conditions. All of their children are receiving proper education. They hope to one day pass this family business onto their children and continue to grow in order to offer more opportunities and better lifestyle conditions for their families in Huancayo. When orders are at maximum capacity they are able to bring in more family and friends from Santiago de Cajas to help.
