4 Essential Must Do’s for a New Year, New Home

Ankole Horn Tumbler Set

Happy New Year from us!! With a new year, means new beginnings and exciting opportunities! There are plenty of design and organization tips on how to refresh a home but we wanted to share something deeper that we actually use to help obtain a conscious home. For me, it’s more than switching out pillows or rearranging my #shelfie, it’s a mindset and intention when it comes to starting the year off on the right foot.

Life Goals are House Goals

Planning is key to any mindful home, your goals for the year should also be reflected in your home. Rather you are transitioning from working at the office to home, spending more quality time with your significant other or doing weekly entertaining. What you want to achieve should be reflected and updated accordingly.

Sit down and take some time to outline how you are going to obtain your goals. Take inventory of what you have and what other essentials that you will need to get you where you want to be. The extra effort upfront can save you time, money, and making sure you stay on track of the genuine purpose of why you’re doing this refresh!

Less is More: Declutter

Even though traditionally the big clean is in the spring, I’m a strong believer in doing one every season. Nothing feels better than a full home cleanse and refresh by sorting through all your belongings, get organized and purge. I feel so much lighter every time I do this and makes buying new home accessories and decorating enjoyable knowing that everything around you is cherished. It’s no coincidence that Netflix recently released Marie Kondo’s show days right after the new year. I’m a huge believer.

Say Goodbye

Have a worn arm chair or a ratty rug that you’ve been holding on to since college and keep swearing you’ll throw away once you found a new one? Get rid of it now! Once something is gone it’ll help you decide on whether it was an unnecessary home item or if it’s truly a home essential. This helps saves you money from just purchasing something cause you feel like you need to replace it. If you find it being an essential, it’ll allow you to pause and really put a conscious thought in your purchase.
